DIY Skin-Care Recipe

OAT+HONEY Face Mask

This simple but powerful skin-care hack comes highly recommended by our on-sight herbalist, Kendra Eyman! It just requires a few house-hold ingredients and we’re willing to bet you have them all stocked in your pantry right now!

OAT & HONEY FACE MASK:

  • 1 tablespoon oat flour (ground oats)

  • 1 teaspoon honey

  • 1/2 teaspoon unfiltered apple cider vinegar (optional)

  • 1/2 teaspoon rosewater (or plain water)

HOW IT WORKS:

  • oat flour (ground oats): exfoliates and soothes skin

  • honey: balances skin’s pH, antibacterial, anti-aging, moisturizing

  • unfiltered apple cider vinegar: exfoliates and tones skin, balances pH

  • rosewater (or water): reduces redness, soothes skin

Oat flour combined with honey helps attract moisture to the skin, which soothes irritation and just overall skin “anxiety”.

Honey and apple cider vinegar both work to maintain your skin’s acid mantle: the protective film of natural oils, amino acids and sweat that covers your skin. This little barrier is often disturbed by use of harsh soaps and other chemical ingredients. Apple cider vinegar is special in that it gently exfoliates while also maintaining this barrier, making it a real MVP when it comes to skin care. However, the smell can be a bit -much- which is why we’ve listed it as an optional ingredient!

Rosewater has beautiful aromatherapeutic properties and helps to reduce redness, but plain water works fine, too!

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Blend all ingredients together in a small bowl.

  • Apply a thin layer to clean skin. Let dry about 10 minutes.

  • Rinse with warm water.

  • Moisturize with your favorite everyday-use lotion!
